In it's two hundred odd years of independence the USA has often been an 'Imperial' nation. Just because Americans don't see the illegal annexation of the independent kingdom of Hawaii as imperialism that doesn't mean to say it wasn't. Seizure and occupation of the Philippines, genocide of the Native Americans and seizure of their land?. Americans would do well to read their history they might see they were no better than other Western Nations despite their high moral tone.

You do not have it exactly right. That's what happens when you use Wikipeida. Please read the history below for your answer.
EDIT- Interesting answers. It appears some people do not see any difference between imperialism and a desire to share the blessings of liberty and the wealth generating powers of Capitalism with the rest of the world. Amazing how so many see America as the problem instead of what it actually is, the solution.
Merry Christmas!

It depends how you define 'Imperial'.
1. An empire or a sovereign, especially an emperor or empress (the 'official' de jure definition).
2. Having extensive colonies, territories or dependencies (the de facto definition).
Under definition 1 the answer is certainly 'no'. Using definition 2 the answer is subject to debate.

Yes. Turn on a TV almost anywhere in the world and you will see US cultural imperialism in action. US corporations, facilitated by US governments and the military industrial complex, have long practised economic imperialism.

the US never engaged in empire building, which is the definition of imperialism. Think of the British empire, the Ottoman empire, the Roman empire.
We built a country and maintain it. We are not continually invading other countries, taking away their sovereignty and forcing them to be part of our empire. If we were that evil you wouldn't have millions of people flocking to this country like we do.
If we were an empire, we could do something like take over Mexico so the illegal bastards could stay where they belong. Get it? Instead we let them come here, break our laws, kill and rape our citizens. Does that sound like an empire to you?
Whatever trash your liberal professor is trying to shove down your throat, don't buy it. use your brain to figure out the truth.
Tell me how, with your ridiculous site reference, tell me how the US compares to the Nazi empire
or the Russian empire? Wake up already. Have some pride in yourself and don't believe the lies of the left. You'll be a better person in the long run.
