That kind of depends on what you're looking for.

Those *most* significant in terms of establishment and giving a direction to religion:

John Winthrop
William Penn
Ann Hutchinson
John Williams
Jonathan Edwards
George Whitefield

Winthrop and Penn got things going in their respective colonies. Hutchinson, Williams, and Penn pushed for religious tolerance. Edwards and Whitefield were catalysts in the Great Awakening that brought people back to the church.

Also, Lord Baltimore (can't think of his real name)--founder of Maryland--who created the colony as a Catholic refuge.

Modern day Evangelists and ministers simply emulate what these people did, that is why I consider the latter more significant.
