After seeing what the holiday season can do to some people, how do you enjoy the holidaze?

Working in retail, I get to see the real negative side of some folks. How parents will scour the earth looking for "That Gift". A small percentage will simply get irate with you if you can't deliver.

They have forgotten what Christmas is all about.

I used to work for K-Mart when the Cabbage Patch Craze, the Glo Worm, Masters of the Universe, Transformers etc, etc. drove customers MAD! For me, Christmas lasted 3 months or longer feeling like I was in a battle zone at times.

What are some of your retail customer horror stories?

How about how you went out of your way to successfully satisfy a customer who was about to go home and cry?

I know what you mean. There was the time that I was working for a grocery store behind the camara bar. It was Christmas eve and a customer came up and asked for some kind of batteries he needed. I told him we were out and that I was sorry. He then went on and on about the fact that we were crazy to be out of batteries (we probably should have had tons of them but for some reason we just didn't). So anyway, this was at about closing time and it had been a long day and I was just looking down at the counter since there was nothing left for me to say. He then tells me very loudly "Look at me when I talk to you" as if I were one of his kids or something. Then he went over to the manager of the store and complained to him about me. This was sometime back in the early '80's and unfortunately, I still remember this guy.
It can be a very awful time of year in retail.

Actually, I was on the other side of that attitude. The season is wonderfully busy so my job went by so much faster. If we didn't have what they wanted I would call other stores to find it. I had one customer come in with his little girl looking for a bratz doll and I found one way up top on a riser and that little girls face lit up like a Christmas Tree and she hugged and hugged it.
