I moved to Ohio in July and foolishly signed away about everything because of emotional stress and not getting an attorney. Now after our year of legal separation is up, my husband, who still lives in North Carolina, is filing for divorce. Is it possible to get my agreement voided and file a new agreement?

Protect Your Rights by Educating Yourself
In today's society, no man is truly a jack of all trades. The level of technical knowledge required in many fields makes it tough to effectively "do it yourself". If you needed work done on your electrical wiring, you'd undoubtedly call in a qualified professional, but many people make the mistake of undertaking complex legal actions without professional advice.

If you don't have a thorough understanding of the intricacies, legal requirements, procedures, deadlines, and burdens of proof associated with your legal issue, trying to go it alone could cost you time, money, even something much more important like your freedom or custody of your children.

What seems like a simple endeavor can be complicated by witness requirements, service of process procedures, statutes of limitations, deadlines for filing certain motions, even the required format for certain legal documents. Sorting out these issues can be daunting and time-consuming, but at the same time, many legal issues require quick action.

For example, a bankruptcy case can be dismissed simply because the debtor neglected to complete the required Credit Counseling Briefing before filing his petition.

Fortunately, you don't have to untangle those issues alone. An attorney in your area can provide the information, insight, and advice that you need to make good decisions about how to move forward.

It may be able to be voided if you did not have the opportunity to speak with an attorney before signing it.
