So i will not be able to breastfeed. I know that in other countries there are women who for a cost provide their breastmilk, is there such a thing in america? Should i try and obtain some breast milk so i can maybe do 1/2 breastmilk 1/2 formula for 3-6 months, or should i just go with formula? My only issue with buying breast milk is how do you *REALLY* know that the breast milk is clean, good, and from a healthy non drug using mother? I have friends who breastfed and friends who went all formula, i kind of dont really care that much b/c my only choice is formula... but i guess if it is that much better i would buy it, of course if it is no more expensive then formula.

Yes I have heard of a wet nurse. Generally wet nurses were lower income women that breastfed children for higher income families. You can try finding a local Milk Bank through your local LaLecheLeague, or even have breast milk donated to you from other mothers that have an over abundance.

Are you pregnant or have you had your baby? If you are still pregnant you won't have milk in your breasts yet. If you have had your baby, the way to get your milk supply going is to keep putting the baby to the breast to suck. This sends signals to your body to produce more milk.

Laleche League won't sell you milk, but they can give you great advice about breastfeeding generally. Milk banks are generally for babies in special care who get the most benefit from it. I have never heard of wet nurses in America or Europe in modern times.

How do you know you'll have no milk?
Anyway- http://milkshare.birthingforlife.com/
may have information for you.
If you have a breastfeeding friend and they're willing to nurse your baby then I say to go for it. Still better than formula.
You can also feed donated milk through an SNS and that will also stimulate you to make milk, depending on why you don't..

Ooooh, I've never heard of this?
Why don't you have your own breast milk?
I'm not sure I would feed my baby somebody elses breast milk, but then again I havent thought about it properly so I'm not sure.
Probably the best thig to do would be to ask your midwife or somebody at the hospital as they would reccomend a safe way of doing this.

I will watch your other answers with interest.
