That's the pessimistic way of looking at it because it infers that you are in the confined space of a train tunnel and here comes the train hurtling towards you . You have very little space to avoid it.
The more common explanation to the light at the end of a tunnel is that, that is your way out. There is no train here. It is usually said to encourage someone who is gloomy.

OMG move out of there u might get hit by the train don't just stand there an look inside of it! if u stay there any longer u might end up seeing the light from the heaven lol
