Is 4 days enough for a teacher to write a recommendation for college? I need it before winter break. Will this be rude?

Generally, yes. Why have you waited so long? Not only is 4 days a major imposition (a month is more appropriate), but the week before winter break is generally one of the busiest of the year for faculty, who need to wrap up their classes and Christmas preparations for their families at the same time.

If someone suddenly told you that they couldn't write the letter they had promised earlier, then most teachers would understand the last-minute request, even though it creates problems, but if this is just because you waited until the last minute, don't be surprised if the teacher says no.

No, if you explain the situation to the teacher. Also, it depends on the teacher as well. I would go ahead and ask and see what they say. If they do it...that's awesome. If they don't...go find another teacher that will.

Good luck!
