First of all I am so sorry for your loss & my heart goes out to you.
Yes, I have had to make this decision & it is very heart wrenching. I just made this decision this past June with my girl Desire.
Just know in your heart that you did what was best. Doing so is the last act of love you give to a pet. I am sure you could see that in your dog's eyes that she was tired & needed the rest.
Your dog gave you many years of affection, dedication & companionship & you will cherish those memories for the remainder of your life and you must know time comes when we have to let go & put our pets feelings before our own. That in which is exactly what you did.
Let time be the guide when you decide to get another dog. You'll know when you are ready.
May peace & comfort be in your heart at this difficult time.

Too many times. We've always had at lease one dog while we've been married. I hate that so much, but I know that it is for the best. I have had to do several, luckily (?) one of my last dogs died in our arms. We had just returned from the vets and they said that they couldn't do anymore. I think the dog had a heart attack and passed away. Our last one, had to be put down Halloween a year ago. I decided then that I couldn't do it anymore. Now that I'm retired, hopefully my wife and I can do some traveling, and without a dog, we won't have to worry about getting it into a kennel and leaving it there. It's for the best. Although it does break my heart to be without one.
You have my condolences on your loss.

I had to let Molly My Lab go to sleep 3 yrs and 10 months ago, it still hurts now to think about it but the pain does lessen with time. The house does feel empty and getting another dog does ease the pain and helps fill the gap that they leave. I got another Lab, she will never replace Molly but she did help with the grieving. I also got another Lab and now have two and know that I will have to go through it all again some day, but the pleasure they bring while they are here makes it all worth while.

Oh Betty, I am so very sorry. Yes, I have had to do that & there is a great void. I cannot imagine being without my Toy Fox Terrior. If she goes before I do, I will get another one just as soon as I find a little female. Housebreaking a female has never been a problem for me.Better to have loved & lost then to never have loved at all. Follow your heart Betty. Weigh & balance. Only you know what is best for you. ~~~~

Yes, my hamster - I know, people will laugh at me, but I was really attached to him, he was a cutie and such a nice personality. He was 2 1/2 years old and he had kidney failure, the vet tried some therapy but when it didn't work anymore we had to put him to sleep. And I was all by myself. Such a sad time
I am sorry about your pet - I would recommend getting another one, though, when you finish grieving for the previous one. Good luck and hugs xx

i havent as of yet. tho i have a 14 year old boy who is showing his signs of ageing.. im a vet nuse and i see it everyday. it is the sadest thing seeing people grive over their animals, because they are really part of the family... their is a poem called rainbow bridge that you will like.. i will add it on...
im sorry for you loss.. just remember the good times that you had with your pet..
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

When I was 13 we put my dog happy to sleep. It was hard on our whole family she was 19 and I didn't know life without her. But she had very bad arthritis and was in allot of pain. We had no choice.
They put her to sleep when I was at school. I felt betrayed when I came home and she wasn't there. My parents never even let me say goodbye to her.

I still get teary thinking of the time that I had to make that choice. It's never easy. I think you will be able to replace your pet, however. Just be patient with the housebreaking. Sorry for your loss.
