People who wish to live here should have a reasonable command of the English language and before they come here they should have a written guarantee that a job is waiting for them or that they have a place in an educational setting. They must also understand that while they live here they are subject to the laws of this country.

1. They should have an American checking account with an IRS tax ID.
2. Be able to pass an English proficiency exam.
3. Show proof of health insurance.
After all, I had to do all of these things to live in another country besides America.

Speak English!!!! They should also be able to recite the Pledge of Allegiance by heart. This is kind of far fetched, but they should be required to write an essay (high school style, nothing fancy) on why they came to America and what they hope to achieve by coming here. This could also double as the English test.

A desire to live in freedom, improve one's life and family and most of all be ready to deal with the idiots who try to make your life miserable because they forget what this country really means to those who do not enjoy the benefits of freedom in other countries.
And please dont't call them aliens....they are people waiting to become American....not objects as many idiot Americans think these days.
