why does singapore and philippines have the same time zone while thailand (which is nearer the phils latitude-wise) has a different time zone?

While the longitudes and lattitudes are the bases for time zones, governments can elect to slightly change these definitions. For instance, China which is geographically covering multiple time zones has the same time throughout the country. India also does not follow this rule to the letter.
That explains why some countries which should have the same time may actually be 1 hour away from each other, time-wise.

According to longitude, Singapore is 103° 51' 16" East of Greenwich, and lies within the UTC+7 time zone.
When Peninsular Malaysia moved its standard time 30 minutes ahead of UTC+7:30 to UTC+8:00 in 1981, Singapore followed suit for economic and political reasons.
The city state started using UTC+8 on 1 January 1982, and the country celebrated New Year's Day half an hour earlier.

Because of the time zone line thingy map. They have the same letter (they use letters to know what time it is in the zone).

TIME ZONES are not vertically lined by convention. Some countries that are on top each sometimes have different time zones.

i dont understand it exactly but it has more to do what country it is in and less with its geographic location.
