Oh yes, I guess anybody with a grain of sense should be a fan of his. The first story I read featuring him made me eager fro more and I couldn't stop until I had read ALL his books which made me like the author all the more. A.C.Doyle has written other interesting books but apart from Sherlock Holmes, there is 'The Lost World' which you should definitely read fro it is ike a passage in time.

He is my favorite character and his creator is my favorite writer.

I would love to be able to create a character that will stand the test of time like the great detective, who has become a part of culture itself, including that colorful phrase, and of course, "Elementary, my dear Watson" though he never said it in a story penned by Doyle.

And Jeremy Brett is the closest thing to Holmes in my eye, but he is still too neurotic. Apparently, though, there is a Sherlock Holmes film in the works, so hopefully that is good.

You can't beat Sherlock Holmes for a great story. I love stories from Victorian England.

Yes. Canon Doyle was the real beginning of detective novels. No one can conflict this. What a thinking he had had even before several decades. The most astonishing part of him is the simplicity he had maintained in all his cleverly woven stories. Agatha Christie had more often referred to Holmes series in her novels. I also heard that Doyle was once sued for perpetrating crimes as his novels explained in detail the techniques used in the crimes. This had instead added to his repute.
