If a playoff game ends in a tie Yahoo adds the bench players points to final score to crown a winner, if the two teams are still tied the team that has scored the most points all season wins.

It varies from league to league. The 5 most common ways that I've seen are 1) bench players 2) best couple of players 3) best sub 4) optimal roster 5) higher seed.

1) bench players. add all the bench players on both team and the team with the higher point total of unused players advances. I've always hated this version because supposedly you are winning games by your starters. If you have injured players on your bench, it could be a huge detriment.

2) total of best 3 players. my league does this. you take the top 3 scorers of the starters and add them together. For instance if one team has a QB/RB/RB scoring 37, 22, 20 and those are the top 3 players, they have 69 points. If the other team has a QB/WR/K 45, 17, 12, they have 84 and would win. If still tied after a 3rd player, a 4th, then 5th would be added to each side until a tie is broken. I only like this because it allows the starters to decide it.

3) best sub. Add the highest bench player's total to your overall score. Not a bad way either, but can be problematic. I have a 14-player roster league where 9 start. Of the remaining 5 on one year, I had 3 injured players that I could afford to give up, and the remaining 2 were my weakest players, but there wasn't anything to replace them with.

4) optimal roster. swap in bench players for starters that they outscored. This is not good for the fact that it takes away from the importance of starting the right players in the game and actually rewards the guy who mis-played his line-up best.

5) higher seed. Worst I've seen is the higher rated seed advances in the playoffs on a tie. The regular seaon record gives them the 'home field' edge.

Of the variations, I personally like 2 or 3. I've seen #1 the most.

Look in your league's charter for a tiebreaker. In my league it's bench players' score.

If it's not there, ask the commish. If you're the commish, you'd better come up with something quick!

If there was no tiebreaker in place, and the tie was this week, and its too late to fix it, the fairest thing is to let BOTH teams play next week. A 3-way game. Most points wins.

But the person they're playing will probably scream bloody murder.

There are not blanket uniform rules....you will need to consult your league rules/guide on how ties are broken.
