They poison your brain, you see some crazy stuff and think some crazy stuff, and then everything returns to normal when the poison has run its course.
Unless, of course, it doesn't.
Update:
I decided to update when I saw that people who did not know how to spell "before" were chiming in.
Sometimes it just "doesn't" - the schizotypal thinking remains a part of your cognitive experience. Eventually, it may become very difficult to differentiate reality from hallucination.
You may begin to question things which you have always taken for granted - your existence, the "truth" of perception, et cetera.
People have a right to govern what they take into their bodies and what states of consciousness they experience, but there are some things about hallucinogens that people who link to Erowid really do not understand.
Latent psychotic conditions exist in many people (myself included) and hallucinogens act as powerful catalysts - this is not a lesson you want to learn the hard way.

They are hallucinogens therefore, they make you hallucinate. They aren't best idea and I wouldn't recommend them to you. But if you feel you are a big girl and want to try them sometime, I suggest you plan ahead and make sure you will be in a non-hectic situation with people you know and trust. It can be a really uncomfortable experience otherwise.
Oh and just so you know, typically shrooms come from cow poop. just to give you a little idea of what people are choosing to ingest.

I only took them once, and that was 10 years ago when I was in college. They didn't do anything fantastically great or anything, but I do remember watching "The Muppet Movie" that night and saying to myself at one point "Man..what the he!l is up with Big Bird's face?" (it went all warped for a moment or so). If you've seen that movie..you'll know what part I'm talking about: just before the "fork in the road" and Big Bird is hitchhiking. All in all, it wasn't what its "advertised" as being.

depends on how many you take and what kind/ quality you get. I know some dudes who were so far gone when they did theres one guy got in a fight with a mailbox and got his azz kicked. But then sometimes you just get really dizzy and vom. and then sometimes (especially if you have a phobia) you get scary trips and freak out.
-if ur thinkin of doin boomers get a trip sitter and have fun

Expand the mind and see beyond the 'self'. See reality in a new light. I was spiritually blind b4 psychedelics. And for that poison ****...gimme the FACTS. Shrooms are no more toxic then alcohol. No one has OD'ed on shrooms...look it the **** up. Know what your talking bout. Alcohol kills much everyday..thru poisoning, disease, driving, and such
