Not as long as their workers make $2 a day, while the rest of their income is made up by the government, and that is what our manufacturing companies have to compete with.
As a country as a whole, they may be embracing international capitalism, but not "free market".
The only capitalists in China are the ones that are drug out into the streets and shot, and the ones who live like monarchs because they are either the friends of the government officials, or their family.

the only time i have ever heard anyone say that China is embracing capitalism is from Maoist groups and U.S. companies exploiting cheap chinese labor. the U.S. companies wal mart etc are making huge amounts of money and wish to maintain the status quo. China hasn't been communist since Deg Xiaoping took over. they are a Socialist Market economy. very different from the Maoist era. i supposed the flaw in the argument is that no amount of trading is going to compel China to turn over it's major industries to private control.
the 14 points of Fascism is a dead on accurate description of the U.S.

CHINA SPEAKING!
Speaking on behalf of China's Imperial family and rulers supposedly behind the scenes, we came to America in 1871. We consist of about 300 to 600 people, the size of Kuwaits royal family.
Our interest is not necessarily commercial as all of us have essentially become loyal American citizens. Our interest as defined by who we now are is in the good maintenance of China and good relations with the rest of the world.
TRADE WITH CHINA
Generally speaking, you do not trade with your enemy. Presently, China is not our enemy. If the Bush administration is planning military action against China, then they would first prepare the American people in order to lay the grounds for an attack on China.
Why, then, would the Bush administration want to propagandize Americans against China in a time where our family is asking for their help, America's help, for our safe return to China and the democratization of our nation?
In China, we are the moderates. We are your people, your guys, in China. Believe it or not, the exact same as Saddam was, loyal to America until the day he died! We know, because we were the negotiators, the original negotiators, who secured Saddam's agreement to withdraw from Kuwait. We found his administration to be very civil and most cooperative. We got him to even agree to a complete peace accord and to fulfill all of the demands PUBLICLY stated by the Bush administration!
A lot of what Americans read in the newspapers and in journals is not necessarily the real truth about Saddam. He was demonized, so we could take him out (in other words kill him). We do not want to see the same happen to our family, so we are speaking out.
Is anyone listening?

China is embracing capitalism in the sense that it has a large "free" market, although alot of the economy is still state run.

What?
China IS embracing capitalism. But just because you have capitalism doesn't mean you're free. Capitalism only means that you have the right to participate in markets. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have political rights, free speech, or anything else.

I think they are dreaming.
China will not change to a Democracy without a change of government. Democracy is immpossible in China. Communist worship of former leader Mao has now become a religion in China (as expected). People are now praying to Mao.
Some facts:
1) Chinese leaders pray to the mass murder that killed 70 million people.(newest calculation is 70 million dead)
2) Each year that goes by, China points more missiles at the U.S. and at U.S. soldiers stationed in Asia.
3) China is trying to bankrupt the U.S. by devaluing its currency while pegging the dollar.
4) A communist general in China threatened to nuke the U.S.. (2005)
5) A leader of China talked of nuclear bombing Japan. (2006)
6) China still arrests priests for praying. Most of the priests have permanently disappeared.
. Buying goods from China just helps expand China's military. China spends countless billions on making its military grow instead of China helping its estimated 900 million extremely poor people (65% of China's population).
Just a couple of years ago, a report was released the showed a large percentage of Chinese don't have enough food to eat. At the same time China is spending countless billions expanding its military. (China's leaders have said war with the U.S. is unavoidable and it is preparing for war)
