If a/b = c/d, then ad = bc (cross multiplication).

So...
(5n+1)(2) = 8(1)
10n + 2 = 8
10n = 6
n = 6/10 = 3/5 = 0.6

5n + 1 / 8 = 1 / 2
(cross multiply to get)

2(5n + 1) = 8
5n + 1 = 8 / 2
5n + 1 = 4
5n = 3
n = 3/5

(5n+1)/8 = 1/2

(5n+1)/8 = 4/8 ....... [multiply 1/2 by 4/4]

5n + 1 = 4 ........... [multiply by 8 to get rid of the denominator]

5n = 3

n = 3/5

Now recheck:

(5(3/5) + 1)/8 = 1/2

(15/5 + 1)/8 = 1/2

(3 + 1)/8 = 1/2

4/8 = 1/2

1/2 = 1/2

(5n+1)/8 = 1/2
8(5n+1/8) = 8(1/2)
5n + 1 = 4
5n = 3
n = 3/5

5n+1/8 +1/2
8=2(5n+1) (see below)
8=10n+2
8-2=10n
6=10n
6/10=n
3/5=n

you start by cross multiplying (5n+1)*2 and 8*1

People answering your question are having
trouble because of the way you stated the problem.
It is not clear what is over 8.
It could be 5n + 1
or it could be 8.

multiply both sides by 8 to get 5n+1=4 and then subtract 1 from both sides to get 5n=3
dived 5 by both sides and you get n=5/3
