I have known a lot of musicians artists, in my 40 plus years, and I would not say that "most of them" are of any political persuasion. They are all over the place really.

What they are, since it is how they identify themselves and in some cases make a living, is acutely aware of the value of creative and persuasive speech, and that is a fundamental American value, maybe the most fundamental one we have.

Well, for one thing it's much easier to survive as a musicain or artist when government is taking care of basic needs, such as food, clothing, and shelter. Those are pretty common left-wing beliefs.

One part of the New Deal that many people forget about was grants for artists and musicians.

These policies aren't just good for artists and musicians, they're good for everybody. When artists and musicians have money to spend, they spend it. This increases sales and profits for business. Simple keynsian economics.

There's also an artistic sensibility, which, historically anyway, has meant alignment with the downtrodden. Right-wingers would have you believe that all you need to do in America to succeed is work hard. But of course, most Americans work hard all day every day, yet they can barely afford rent, nevermind a mortgage.

In a capitalist society, there are winners and losers. The rich always win. Try playing monopoly when one person starts out with all the money!

Artists and musicians know that the "losers" aren't necessarily the ones who didn't wok hard. People who have been traumatized, abused; people born half-retarded, the mentally ill, all these people get crushed by capitalism.

Meanwhile, Johnny Trust Fund does just fine without ever working a lick. Hardly seems fair, does it?

There are several reasons. There is the fact that most of the music,TV, movie and art industry decision makers are left wing. There is the fact of a quiet kind of bigotry exists that can cause those with an opinion contrary to the party line to suddenly see their offers or invitations to parties begin to dwindle.

There is the fact that any who attend a liberal arts college have been severely indoctrinated. But probably the most important is the fact that most of them hang around and interact with only like minded ideologues in a completely insulated and artificial environment. There are countless instances of celebrities saying what can only be interpreted as naive statements or drawing conclusions that cannot be supported by any sort of reality.

One of the biggest hurdles Liberals face today is the lack of reality checks they have in their lives. Most seem to congregate with only like minded individuals. The more they espouse some biased rhetoric into the echo chamber the more they hear it back, thus reinforcing their specious belief system. Finally getting to the point where they really believe that practically everyone thinks as they do. This is why when America overwhelmingly rejects some part of their platform they are often quite bewildered.

Then there are those who begin their public careers with no particular interest in politics on any level. Soon they are introduced to a lot of people who seem impressive to them such as directors, executives and producers that espouse a very anti-American pro Socialism diatribes. They soon learn that repeating back these catch phrases will impress these people. So, a new mini-Socialist is born.

Merry Christmas!

Narcissism is the reason. Left wingers love to take the fruit of someone elses hard earned resources and give it to the parasites. This gives them the means to say, "look at me, I care about the poor, YOU should work harder so that people like me can take your money from you and give it to the poor people. Aren't I a nice guy/girl?"
I live in a very Gay/Lesbian and Artsy neighborhood of Toledo and I see it all the time. Then I also hear them (the left wing artistic elite) complain because part of Toledo's ghetto is in our backyards and the drug dealers and ho's make them feel threatened. It is hilarious.

Musicians and artists are mosly left wing because most of their fans belong to that sector and they must please them to patronize their music and arts.

They believe, like all liberals, that the government knows best how to run your lives. They want the government to either pay them for their "art" or force you to buy their "art." Most of their art and music is garbage anyway. Getting a real job is not in their frame of reference.

its all about mindset.
conservatives believe that if you work hard and get an education, you will make it.
democrats believe that in order to make it, you need luck.
those jobs required people to 'be lucky'.
thats why its so rare to see rightys in those professions.
