It tastes gross... but my home remedy is gargling with warm salt water. I do it several times a day when my throat is sore. It really helps. Hope you feel better!

• Apply eucalyptus oil inhalations, 10 min. a day, will help.

• An excellent cough syrup is made by mixing equal parts lemon juice and honey, with a little cayenne pepper tea. Take 1 tsp. when needed.

• Boil a quart of water; lower the fire as much as possible and add a half tsp. cayenne pepper. Wait a few minutes, then wet a towel in the water, wring it out and wrap it around the neck. Keep the water hot and change this fomentation every 3-4 min, doing this for a half hour while feet are soaked in hot water.

• Helpful herbs include licorice, fig leaves, mullein, vervain, oregano, bay leaves, hyssop, and thyme. Take 3 cups a day (1 tsp. granulated herbs per cup boiling water. Never boil the herbs. Never use aluminum ware).

• Mix thick flaxseed tea with 1-2 drops eucalyptus oil, and drink slowly.

• Add a tsp. salt to a pint of soft, warm water; snuff it up the nose, then blow it out gently. Repeat till the nose is entirely clean of mucus. Then gargle the throat and rinse the mouth out thoroughly with similar salt water.

• Whenever there is a cold, keep the nose and mouth clean. This will tend to keep the cold from going down into the lungs.

• Cleanse the colon with high enemas. Continue until they reach the upper part, where the transverse colon is.

• If there is any nausea or bad feeling in the stomach, take an emetic to vomit it out. Lukewarm water, or water with a little salt in it will generally help do this. Drink all the water possible, and then run the finger down the throat. Repeat till the stomach is clean. Then drink a few cups of a hot herb tea (such as sage, hyssop, yarrow, black cohosh, peppermint, or chamomile). Later in the day, drink some more.

• Keep quiet and stay in bed. Take only fruit juices (or lemon juice in hot water). Later drink the broth of thick white potato peeling soup (also called potassium broth).

Get some licorice root tea. I love this stuff, it works wonderfully on sore throats. The licorice both sooths and heals. You can either buy flavored tea blends or just the loose root, its flavor is lightly sweet. Just keep drinking it until your throat starts feeling better. Supposedly if you drink a ton of it it can raise your blood pressure some so if you struggle with high blood pressure only drink a little and just gargle the rest.
Some immune boosters are echinacea, vitamin C and garlic (garlic also lowers blood pressure). If you can manage eating two cloves a day while you are sick it should help you get better a day or two faster. Garlic is both antiviral and antibacterial but it has to be fresh and raw to heal you.

Worth a try for sure.

(Otherwise, mix boiling water with honey , baking soda, and salt. Let it cool, then gargle for 5 minutes every 4 hours. You'll be good as new in 2 days.)

For me, the only things that work are Popsicles or hot tea with lots of honey, or any other hot beverage like coffee or hot cocoa.

I am volunteering with kids, so this season i have already been sick four times. each time with a sore throat. When it is really bad, the Popsicle is the best because it totally numbs my throat as i let it melt. Hot stuff is best to sip on when you just need it to be soothed, For me, no cough syrup or medicine helped. They only made me drowsy or feel worse. So i stick to what i know works.

1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon lemon, 1/2 ounce brandy or rum. mix well with 1/4 cup boiling water, and when it is cool enough to drink, sip slowly, letting it slowly run down the back of the throat. Great Grandma always gave us this when we were staying with her, and it works!

personally, i don't take medications for sore throats and rarely cough drops b/c i think they're placebos
when i'm suffering i just drink tons of liquids and teas.
Chicken noodle soup has been scientifically proven to help, just drink water to balance out the high salt amount.

FIRST: go to the doc and make sure it's NOT strep. Only antibiotics can get rid of strep and untreated strep can go on to damage other organs... also, it is highly contagious.

After that... lots of fluids, lots of rest, and aspirin.
