how on earth would i solve the area of an octagon if each side had a length of five?

pretty please show work with formulas or whatever.

area of an octagon when you know the length of the sides (d) is:

a = 2d^2(1+sqrt(2))
thus since d=5,
a= 2 x 5^2 x (1 + sqrt(2)) = 120.71

draw a square around the octagon. you should have four triangles when done(one at each corner of the square). when you put those triangles together you get two more smaller squares. Find the area of the main square then subtract the area of the two smaller squares from the large one and that is the area of your octagon.

There is no simple equation to solve for the area of an octagon. To do this, you need to divide the octagon into triangular, square, and rectangular pieces.

hey the easiest way is to figure out the area ofone of the triangles and multiply it by 8

Break it up into eight triangles (the sides of each one will be one side of the octogon connected to the midpoint). Find the area of each triangle (I assume you know how to do that). Then multiply by 8.
