A gift from my EX mother-in-law: She gave me a purple scarf that she bought at the dollar store. It was purple, poorly constructed, and had glitter on it! You couldn't a tackier gift if you tried!!

Upon opening the gift, I thanked her for her thoughtfulness and asked her how she knew that purple was one of my favorite colors. I mentioned that I had an outfit that would look great with just such a scarf.

I've never seen such a horrified look on any gift giver's face before or after that moment! I truly was just trying to receive the gift graciously, but in hindsight, I secretly love that she didn't get the reaction she apparently hoped to receive. : )

PS: Yes. She is my ex-mother-in-law because she broke up my marriage. She thought that I was the reason her son didn't visit frequently. Now she *never* sees him! What she didn't know was that I was the reason he stayed in touch as much as we did!!! I never had a family and wanted one! Ironic, huh?

The worst gift I graciously received was a heart you have to wind up to keep it beating (from a boyfriend). Tee hee..

Hmmmm the one I remember most vividly is a tape (yeah, back when we still had music tapes and LP's records) from a rock band I didn't like that much, but I thought "what the hell, maybe their new record is good"...................... and when I tried to play the tape, it was defective so I could never listen to it!!! I got it at a gift exchange in highschool......

When I was 13 my step-grandmother got me bright red knee high socks that fit my 4 year old sister. I am now 44 years old and I think I may still be traumatized by those socks! LOL

I would say this red purse lamp with frilly black fake featers, it looks like something you would find at a cheesy strip store, needless to say its still sitting in my closet in the original gift bag from 2004

Last Xmas, my husband gave me a $10 Starbucks gift card that someone had given him and he didn't want. (And he told me this.)

That's ALL he gave me. Pretty bad, huh?
