On Clash of the Choirs, Patti Labelle said that it is good a white guy on MIchael Boltons group can sing like a black guy. Would you find this to be a racist comment?

No. Patti Labelle basically said the exact same thing that Michael Bolton said earlier in the piece. If you remember, when he picked the guy in the first place, Michael Bolton said that the reason he picked him is because he was a white guy who didn't sound white (basically meaning that sounded black - which incidentally I don't agree with at all - to me he sounds like a white guy with a raspy voice). Why he would pick a guy solely for that purpose or felt the need to lead off with that comment, I do not know. Geesh. Just pick a guy with a good voice and leave it at that - if you make sure that the voices blend you'll be fine.

That aside, I don't think that Michael Bolton meant anything negative by it either - I think that Michael Bolton sees himself as having a soulful voice (as do a lot of other people - not me though) and he picked someone who was a bit like himself. Just like Patti picked people who sing very much like her. So, since Bolton said it first, I think that she was just echoing back and agreeing with what he said.

Nope. Did you watch it all and see where she picked the white man because he was the better singer? Does that make her racist? She meant it as a compliment, probably meaning more along the line that he was soulful and sounded like some of the old Motown label sings.

I don't find it to be a racist comment. Anyone, racist or not, can admit that voices coming out of most black singers have a certain recognizable quality/flavor to them. I personally enjoy it a lot and always find it interesting when this same quality is attained by a singer of different color, although it's rare. I believe that's all she was saying. It was more of a compliment to that singer than anything.

PS: The word I'm looking for is "soul".

are you insane? She is further from being racist from anyone I know of in the entertainment industry. She lost all of her family members to fatal disesaes and she loves all people regardless of race! And what she said is true, because not to many white men in the industry sing like a black man is what she said and it is true! You need to do your research on miss labelle before you go on judging her!

It was a harmless statement and actually a compliment. When it comes to choir music, most of the world would rather hear a Bebe Wynan than a Pat Boone.

If there is a satisfactory (sufficient) amount of evidence to link them towards the crime than yes they can!
