Sure there are some answers that come to mind, like when a spot appears or a rip, frey comes about. But is thier a fashion guidline that says "hey", after one year you should be rotating the old out and the new in? I'm refering to a corporate white or dress long sleve shirt that you would wear a tie with daily.
Inquiring minds..........

Shirt styles and fashion trends do change - however for an office environment you can't beat a classic french cuff dress shirt paired with a nice pair of cufflinks to match your tie color.
Shirts showing signs of wear should be replaced - if you buy a new shirt once or twice a month, you should be able to have a fairly decent rotation. The clue is to always look smart and dress up don't ever dress down.

Always replace a shirt if you can see a tear or stain or anything while wearing it. replace buttons as soon as they fall off.

As far as anything else, if you wear them every day, I would shoot for maybe buying a new shirt every month or so. Maybe a couple extra. Buy yourself one on your birthday and Christmas. That should help rotate "old looking" ones out.

bottom line---think about the shirts your coworkers wear. if you see something wrong with a shirt they have on, it will look wrong on you too.

Oh yeah--Don't forget your shoes!!! An unpolished pair of shoes RUINS a good wardrobe. That is the biggest "dress" mistake guys make. I had a boss with a $400 suit on and his shoes looked like he went hiking in them. It says "I forget the small details."

Well traditionally I'd think that it wouldn't matter as long as it's not too big, because I essentially see men tucking in their dress shirts. If not, it all depends on your own personal style, but trying not to look too sloppy at the same time.
