The short answer is "yes". I lost my best friend over a year ago. We parted on bad terms and I've not spoken to her since. I had some bitterness at first because I allowed her to treat me badly.
Time will pass and you will get through it. So yes, pick up the pieces and start over.
p.s. This year, I met a new friend who treats me like I deserve to be treated. With respect and love.

That's something you need to think long and hard about. Can you picture them out of your life forever? Are giving more than you are receiving? Is this person really worth your trust, time, energy and respect? You need to weigh out the pros and cons of having them in your life. If the pros are higher than the cons give it another chance. If the cons are way higher than the pros cut your losses and realize that you are better off. It's hard to cut the cord so to speak on a friendship, especially if there has been a lot of history and time spent together. Make sure you are doing what is in your best interest and good luck. This is a hard thing to have to go through...I've been where you are and after a lot of thought i decided to give my friend another chance..i am very glad i did. Good luck.

It's not an easy thing to do, I've had to do it a few times in my life, you just start picking up the pieces, keep moving forward and new friends will come into your life!!

It hard, you first collect your thoughts remember all the times you've spent together, both good and bad. Remember the fun, smiles, ups and down. You'll never forget them they will be in your heart forever. You can move on, but they will always be a part of you.

My best friend died of colon, liver and pancreatic cancer in 1994. What did I do? I grieved for many years. Then I slowly made new friends. It wasn't easy. She was only 31.

I've had this happen to me..
I was angry at first and then I was sad, but then I realized she obviously wasn't a very good best friend. Now my new best friend is everything she wasn't and more =]
