I'm in my mid-teens too, and I've had my braces for a year now. Although I definitely feel that it has taken away from my self confidence and how I feel about myself, I can definitely say that guys don't have a problem with it. I myself am shocked that they don't even care that I have braces. Plus, I know seniors in highschool that have them, and even though it sucks, just think how hot you'll look when you get them off! :)

braces are a bit like spacers but they hurt less and it's usually the first couple weeks really annoying to bite them on solids like spacers. TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS: 1. The orthodontist will give you a manual travel toothbrush to take to school so that after lunch period you can go into the girls washroom and get the food out if there's any stuck between brackets. For the first couple days, just buy mushy easy to eat foods - you should know what i'm talking about if you've had spacers. Soup is a good example, another example is spaghetti (without the meatballs), or just basically pasta. 2. the procedure to get them on is completely and utterly painless. they only hurt when they tighten them 3. they will most likely hurt for 3 - 7 days, but it's kinda hard to say. Some people it hurts for 2 days, some people it hurts for a whole week. Don't be scared! There's nothing to worry about and it's completely normal! In one of my classes, about 10 of all the people have braces.

i work for an orthodontist and have braces myself. im 20yrs old. even though it may not seem like it, it will be all worth it in the end. i suggest u get clear bands on the top to make them not as noticeable. to begin with, the arch wire will be really thin and they wont be as obvious as u think. i love braces when i see them on other people but ill admit i didnt like them on myself. if u are feeling pretty crappy about it, do something like giving ur hair a new style or something so u are feeling more confident about ur look. when u see people out there with beautful smile chances are theyve had braces too so u just gotta think of it in the long run. make sure u do what the Dr tells u too & brush ur teeth after each time u eat if possible. limit soft drinks as they will stain ur teeth and is sometimes impossible to fix.

No it's not unattractive. If you don't like the typical braces which I wore many years ago and were horrible compared to what they have now, try Invisalign. I have them now and have met a couple of people with them and no one can tell. I also know of a couple adults that have braces and I think nothing of it.

No matter what, don't worry about what others will say because once your done, no matter your age, you'll have a beautiful smile.

I don't think we guys care a whole lot if you have braces. I've never looked at a girl and decided she wasn't cute because she had braces.

Besides, isn't a year with braces worth a lifetime of beautiful teeth? Or would you rather not get the braces and have a lifetime of messed up teeth?

your braces will look nice on you. You get to change color of bands every time you go visit your dentist. You will wear them up to 18 months. You'll be very happy afterwards.
And while some are having their braces removed, many more are getting braces.

You will thank your parents very much once you're done with the braces. You will have a fantastic smile! Trust me, it's worth it. I know it kind of sucks that you're getting them when you're older, but the best thing you can do is make the best of it! Pick cute colors for the bands. I used to have a lot of fun with my braces. I'd pick colors that reflected the season of the year... so red and pink for Valentine's, red and green for Christmas. Otherwise I'd simply go with colors that I liked (light pink, light blue, purple).

Seriously though, be thankful that your parents can AFFORD to give you a beautiful smile. I know a lot of people that would kill to be in your shoes right now...

Oh and PLEASE... take care of the braces. Do everything your doc tells you to. This will make your treatment go very fast. I did everything he told me to and I had mine off in just over a year. Whereas my ex boyfriend had his for 5 years (because he didn't take care of them).
