First of all look at http://www.wageline.qld.gov.au/youngworkersrights/starting_work.html and http://www.thesource.gov.au
A great site based for young people. 12 - 25 yrs old on looking for jobs, money tips and heaps of other advice. Well worth a look.

Generally it is 14 1/2 to work, but you can work earlier as long as your have your parent’s permission.
You mentioned a bookstore or Library - that sounds great !
Otherwise there is .... Coles, Woolworths, IGA, K-mart, Target, Big W, The Warehouse.
Any fast food places, McDonalds, KFC etc - they all take on casual staff. - Just walk in and ask !
Smaller takeaway shops, like Pizza, Pasta etc... they are always taking on delivery persons and need kitchen hands....

- Most of the places above you apply online on their websites, look for a link 'careers' or 'employment'. A bit lengthy I know.... but you fill in what area you want to work etc, and they will email you jobs coming up, you can pick and choose, if you are then accepted they will call you in for an interview.

Good Luck with it all.

your age is a school going yet, you are only 13 and in most cases a person can be allowed to work when he is above 18 or depending on the ability and qualification when you are between 15-18. how ever you may be allowed to work in the library or book store because it is necessarily good for a student but it shouldn't interfere with your school programs.
NEXT; if your ability is 100% this days young people gives better decisions in societies, why not you will work in Queenland.
thanks
