I was there for a few days for a wedding. And sad to say it, Michigan's economy is not improving. I grew up in Michigan and I love Michigan. And I dont mind relocating back there, but the economy is depressing. I have lived in New York for about 7 Years, and for the first time I came back it was more hopeless than before. Why is that?

I think there are a few reasons Peter. First, the automobile industry as taken a beating due to it's overseas competitors and general quality of the vehicles they make. Second, the City of Detroit is a scary place that most professionals aren't willing to endure. The local government is corrupt, homeless are lining the streets, gangsters are running around freely, and the US continues to inform everybody about how dangerous it is (which doesn't help morale in the city, or outside spectator views). And Third, because of the reasons above (and other reasons) people and companies are not just leaving the City of Detroit, there leaving the state of Michigan at alarming rates. For instance, the Detroit Tigers play in Comerica Park, yet Comerica left Detroit for new headquarters in Dallas, TX this year. That takes jobs away from an already sad work force and skyrockets the unemployment rate past what it is already. The loss of business, matched with the everything else puts Michigan, and more appropriately the Detroit Metro area in a long standing funk. And it's going to be a while before we can climb out of the hole we've dug. Lets just hope for a better future.

PS. I love Detroit! I hope to see it prosper in the future.

Because an idiot named engler screwed it up in the first place and our current governor inherit all the mess and has no clue or any good resources to make the state recover since all the businesses that made Michigan are leaving to save profits it will be years before Michigan will ever become what it once was, a strong prosperous economy.

Former Governor John Engler nearly bankrupted us with his incompetence and lack of foresight

The auto industry is in trouble and Ron Gettelfinger (UAW president) doesn't know the union-controlled glory days of making $30.00 an hour on the assembly line are over

Businesses are leaving Michigan because it's too expensive to do business here (Big Three, Volkwagen, Comeria Bank and Pfizer, to name a few)

Current Governor Jennifer Granholm is ineffective, incompetent, is taxing us to death, and has accomplished nothing in six years of running our state, except of course bringing animosity and polarity to our state government

It will take at least a decade to turn around and rebuild and restore this ghost town that is now Michigan.

"All the educated young people want to leave, all the old people are retiring, and a lot of the jobs are moving out of state or out of the country. The state budget is not very good either." -a friend
