My life is very routine, and more often than not I veg out in front of the tv or computer after work.

I have thought about joining some sort of group or club, but the resistance comes up: it is too expensive; I don't want to be obligated to be somewhere because what if it becomes inconvenient; how would I decide what to do? etc etc. Due to a lack of creativity I often can't even think of anything new to try that I'd be interested in. I'm very picky and I also don't have a lot of money to spend.

Interestingly enough, if I am dating someone I love to join them and am usually up for "whatever." I will go out after work during the week to try a new restaurant, watch a soccer game, etc.

Any tips for how to get more involved with things...independently?

Try helping at an animal shelter. I know it sounds boring but it is actually a lot of fun. I volunteer there and I walk and train the dogs so when people come to see them the act like angels an they get adopted. I always feel like I've done some real work while I'm there especially when the dog I've been working with gets adopted. It is a lot of fun. It is like having a dog but you don't have to pay for any of the food or anything. Also if don't show up on one of the days it is okay they are just grateful when you can spare time.
