I know I sound like a jerk saying this;but,Jimi Hendrix is called the best by many only because he died at the height of his success. This is the same case for many stars considered to be the greatest. Marilyn Monroe, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, 2 Pac,Notorious B.I.G,etc. The list goes on forever. If Jimmy Page had died (which I thank him he didn't, since he is God) he would be remembered as the greatest without question.
There are certain elements which prevent him from getting the recognition he deserves. He was into the occult; second, he took Rock to a new level, one in which many people think wound up destroying it; and he didn't suddenly die.
Evaluate the facts. Page was not only incredible on the Electric Guitar, he was incredible on the Acoustic as well. Not many guitarists can do awesome on both.
He was not only a guitarist; but a songwriter, a meticulous producer, a pioneer of new recording techniques, incredibly diverse, and the riff man of all time. He was into the occult, mythology, folklore, and the blues.
Come on. Hendrix was what? Psychedelic!? Hendrix was good;but, Page was and still is GREAT. He is the quintessential guitarist. He was the man that put Zeppelin together; and he was the man that drove them where they went (don't get me wrong, all of them were very talented,he was just the brains behind it all).
Also, Page's music seems to appeal to my generation more so than Hendrix's, which means his music has the ability to withstand the relentless onslought of time, which is a sign it is something great.
This is too easy. Hendrix is one of the most overrated musicians in history; and Jimmy Page is easily the most underrated. JIMMY PAGE!
