I have an area rug in my room to cover some nasty paint stains by the door, so obv I cant move the rug..but it prevents me from being able to open my door the whole way .. would a heavy duty stapler work? Anything else I can do besides sanding down the bottom of the door? Cause Im just not willing to do that. lol.

You don't have to sand the bottom of the door, take the door off, get a circular saw and cut about 1/4 inch off the bottom all the way across in a straight line. Make sure you draw a line. This is the only way to do it.

Get a thinner rug.
Don't staple stuff to the floor unless you own the house, a stapler won't work anyway.
Get the stain/paint off the floor(sanding & refinishing).
Install linoleum in place of the rug (it's thin).
Take the door down.
Paint the whole floor.

If the rug won't fit under the door, you will have to trim of the bottom of the door. If the rug can fit under the door but bunches up and jams, try double sided carpet tape it may work,it is sticky on both sides.

I'm sorry but your best bet is to take the door off and cut an inch off the bottom, otherwise it's going to look like heck. If it's worth doing, then it's worth doing right.

Pull up the rug and paint a 'welcome mat' or some such on the floor over the paint stains. There are creative ways to cover up 'boo boos'
