The degree is only as good as the school that awards it - online or classroom. A degree earned online from University of Oxford or Harvard U is generally considered more highly than a degree earned in the classroom at AnyState State College and way higher than anything you'd do at East Podunk Community College.

http://onlinecourses.conted.ox.ac.uk/subjects/law.php is an example of an online degree that very few people would question. Oxford is far from a scam.

http://www.extension.harvard.edu/alm/ this one at Harvard can't be done 100% online but it's pretty close to 100%. Harvard isn't usually considered a scam either.

It's not a degree, it's a certificate/diploma - but these people at UC-Berkeley are pretty famous for being a top-notch educator http://www.unex.berkeley.edu/profseq/editon.html

The people at Florida State University (http://learningforlife.fsu.edu/online/prospective/undergradprograms/index.cfm) probably don't consider their degrees to be a scam. I've heard some U Florida fans say that FSU is "bad" though.

UMass (http://www.umassonline.net/Home.html) is an excellent example of an outstanding school (group of schools) offering some top-of-the-line education online. Clearly not a scam.

And, to engineering type people, Stanford University (http://scpd.stanford.edu/scpd/programs/mastersDegree.htm) is surely not a scam and they have a selection of master's completely online.

Are there low reputation programs online and some that are complete scams? Yes indeed there are. There are also low reputation programs in the classroom in your state and some that are complete scams. It's always best to shop around and do some research.

Anyone have one? A lot of people have them. One of my bachelor's (BSc in Liberal Arts) is from Excelsior College, Albany NY. It has served me very well.

Most online degrees are not scams if they are from an accredited college, however most of the online colleges that offer them are more into your money than benefitting you to learn. Having said that, companies who hire you may not look upon online degrees with great respect (it really depends), but have done both attended school and online, I found that online can be difficult sometimes because you are always depending on yourself, with no classroom surrounding, students, and teacher doing live lectures, etc. Sometimes students taking online classes feel isolated and unsure of what they are studying because you are missing that part of the communication and it is only text. So it really depends on you.

The emails you get about online degrees are a scam, but many major universities are offering degrees online now.

If you don't want to do that whole 'go to class thing' etc, you can just enroll in a university that offers your degree through electronic learning (ie: CD seminars, DVD lectures, online chats etc.)
Check 'em out - hopefully you can commit yourself well to s/t b/c they can sometimes be tough on your own!
