well she did have absolutely nothing didn't she? And through her good wheel she wrote the great series of books I've ever read! And to the first person who replied you can't judge people because there gay or if someone makes them that way!
Anyway J.k Desires what she got because she didn't need anyone else's help to get so rich and famous and he is today!
J.k all the way!

I know her a wee bit, she lives not too far away from me. I have friends in Aberfeldy and we meet up several times a year. I've spoken to her as she always comes and fusses with my hairy hounds. She's a lovely lady and does a lot for Charity's that the world does not know about. She could just be the lady down the road from you, there's no airs and graces. In my opinion she is a single struggling mum who worked her socks off and succeeded, so I say well done to her.

Boy Oh! Boy - there are a lot of very negative answers here!
I have never read any of her books, but I have seen a couple of the movies - and yes they were - in my opinion - very entertaining. In addition to be talented and somewhat of a celebrity - she is also extremely generous and has multiple charities to support. So to those of you who have not written a book, not given to charity this year, not created a darn thing in life - I ask you what right do you have to criticize her? Perhaps she was not the odds on favorite, but neither was Tom Cruz - man of the year 2005!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CJ

Don't have an opinion on J.K. Rowling --- it would seem to be in the same realm as the Sir Gore Nobel Prize

Her books have done more to get children reading than any author for a long time. That alone is worth a mention, if it gets kids on a lifetime reading habit because they have discovered it is fun.
I loved her books, and I must say just in passing that a gay character in anybody's book never bothered me, it is fiction after all.

I was wondering the same thing. But um I think it's because she was "brave" enough to put a gay character in a children's book! Yeah, if she's a nominee then there must have been some really really boring or terrible people! That soooo doesn't deserve a 'person of the year' award!!!

Person of the year is just somebody that is in the news. It's also just a gimmicky thing too. I could argue for that guy who discovered that he can kill cancer cells with radio waves as person of the year. It's pop culture stuff. Nothing more.

The committee who chose her has criteria for their choice.
JK is a remarkable woman. Brave to have let Dumbledore come out and also supports many worthy causes with her money.
I love her books and movies!!! Hooray, JK!

Nothing at all, she is an author, and not a very good one. I think thats stupid since she is barely qualified to write her own books let along do anything useful.
But the reason is because shes a self made millionaire, and her book that was released this summer sold like no other book has before, so in the author world she is impressive. Even if I don't personally believe she has any talent.

Think how many children started to read who hadn't cared about it before. That alone should serve for the greatest of honors.
