Okay, I just found out that I can order a tortoise this time of year... I didn't realize there is about 100 different choices. What would be a good pick for a family pet. The ones that get really big someday would be neat too. Thanks, any advice appreciated...

I'd put it in my will! lol... I read a story the other day about one so big the grandkids could ride it. That'd be fun!

Big one? Can you provide it a warm (80-85F) space about 50'x50 all year every year for about 50-100 years? Few people outside warm climates can. Big tortoises are really, REALLY hard to care for.

Try a Greek or Hermann's tortoise instead. http://www.tortoisetrust.org has lots of good info.
