In Elizabethan and Greek tragedy, the tragic hero is a person who holds high ranks and has many admirable qualities, and whose basic goodness and nobility are undermined by a fatal flaw-an error in judgment that leads to the hero's downfall.

The central figure of ancient epic is the hero. In the three major ancient classical epics, the heroes are the Greek Achilles, in the "Iliad", the Greek Odysseus in the "Odyssey", and the Trojan Aeneas in the "Aeneid" Requirements:
1.The heroes come from the heroic era.
2..The heroes are bound by a code of honor.
3.The form of the epic is verse -- hexameters.
4.The language of epic is often formulaic.
5.The material of epic is elevated and does not dwell on the banal details of life..

Usually called an epithet or an Homeric epithet, It is a tag or nickname that can be used on its own or together with the real name, depending on other features of the Greek language. Epithets add a bit of color and also fill out the meter when the name on its own doesn't quite fit. For instance, Athena is called 'goddess grey-eyed Athena' ; Homer never calls the Greeks 'Greeks'. Sometimes they are Achaeans. As Achaeans they receive the epithets 'well-greaved' or 'brazen-clad Achaeans'. The title anax andron 'lord of men' is most often given to the leader of the greek forces, Agamemnon, although it is also given to others. Achilles receives epithets based on the swiftness of his feet.;
Odysseus is 'much-suffering' ; etc.

GREEK HEROES: For thousands of years, the myths from Ancient Greece have enthralled us with tales of brave heroes,
savage monsters, and powerful gods. We can learn a great deal about what made a person a good person if we explore the heroes from their myths. Greek heroes often faced a quest that looked like it could never be overcome but by relying on their strengths they often won and completed their quests. They were classed as " Heroes who Showed Humility " (Paris , Achilles, "The Robber Baby", etc); "Heroes who were Strong, Brave, and Steadfast" (Theseus and the Minotaur, Theseus, etc.); "Heroes who had a Spirit of Adventure" (Jason and the Golden Fleece , Andromeda and the Sea Monster); "Heroes who were Generous" (Beaucis and Philemon); "Heroes who knew The Importance of Friendship" (Damon and Pythias ); "Heroes who Listened to their Parents" (Daedalus and Icarus); and others like Hercules , Hera (wife of Zeus, the main god), Athena, goddess of wisdom , and Jason and the Argonauts who searched for the Golden Fleece.
