I have an Acer Aspire 5100-3372.
Along with the label on the laptop and my computer manual, I'm supposed to have 1 GB of DDR2-type ram, but when I go to system info, it only shows 766 MB. Any help?

In response to Bill M; I do have Vista, so you can see why I'd wonder. Guess I should upgrade a gig.

The Acer Aspire 5100-3372 shares memory between the RAM and your graphics controller. You have 766 MB available for RAM, that means the remainder is being used by your graphics.

Alot of manufactures use this to reduce costs, it is cheaper than using a separate graphics card with its own memory.

Hopefully you don't have Vista, that would be pretty demanding on your system.

Cause Windows sequesters a chunk that it reserves for Windows. To get the more accurate figure of installed RAM, you should check the system BIOS during startup.

try running dxdiag
it should show the amount of RAM you have minus about 2, 4, 6 and sometimes 8. However, it's still fairly accurate. If it still says that, take it to the store to get it checked

You are propably running vista. Vista sucks up your RAM.
Also if you dont have vista - there is a circuit error with your RAM. Sadly, you will have to save all your files and reformat your computer.
IF you dont have any way to back up your files. Just contact support and explain the problem to them.
