Whenever you divide something by a fraction, take the reciprocal of the fraction and multiply the two terms together

= x * [(x) / (x + y)]
= x^2 / (x + y)

x / (x+y)/x
invert and multiply the 2nd fraction

x * x
------= x^2/x+y
x+y
