The four division winners are seeded 1-4 based on their records. Then the two best-record teams who didn't win their division are 5&6 based on who has the better record. So in your example team D is rewarded with a 3 or 4 seed and will play at home the first round.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing that question, because I am, in fact, a Chargers fan, but I live in Jaguar country :) However, I do agree with you that the Chargers may have clinched the AFC west with ease, but it is absolutely because of how badly the other teams in their division played this year.
So yes, albeit slightly disappointing for me :o), my bet would be on the Jaguars having a victory over the Chargers in the playoffs.
Happy Holidays! *

1-patriots (for sure)
2- colts (for sure)
the jags would play at home if they play @ pittsburgh. in the playoofs it is: highest record plays at home and if the records are the same they look the score between them or the score they had against a certain team. dont worry f the jags beat the chargers (they will) they will proabably fall to the colts in the divisional game. sorry but they are a growing team still

Eh..... So now penalize the Chargers for winning their division of losers and reward Jacksonville for not? Win/losses doesn't matter win the division. The way they played in Pitt yesterday, SD shouldn't be a problem....

It goes the 4 division winners are seeds 1-4. Wild cards are seeds 5 and 6. They cant get home field becuase they didnt win their division. Record or not.

The Jags would have homefield advantage against the Chargers if their record is better.

i am a jags fan as well, but we will have to beat the crap of them in SD. the only chance we have to get a home game as a wild card team is in the conference championship.
