For my essay on unmanned exploration being a smarter investment than manned I have the following subtopics: economy/efficiency and space program failure (apollo 1, columbia, challenger). What should the third one be?

Depends on how you want to count things. Elimination of the human cargo means that more instrumentation can be flown, which means a potential increase in the amount data and knowledge accumulated.

It would be extremely difficult for a human crew to remain healthy and sane if put in space for 12 years (radiation, no gravity, claustrophobia), and it would conusme a huge amount of resources.
