I buy a total of 4 yards of fleece...2 yards of a print and 2 yards of a matching solid. One for the fron and one for the back.
Lay out both pieces of fleece on top of each other on the dinig room table. Cut slits that are 1 inch apart and approsimately 3 inches long all the way around. Note: you will end up cutting out a three inch square on each corner. than tie the two pieces together. I was taught to tie every other strip all the way around and than to go back and tie the reaminng ones. I do recommend double tieing them. Also, after you have done this, I have than gone back and tied one piece from on tie to one piece from the next tie over on both layers aof fabric. This makes kind of a V shape and looks a little more finished.
I have made tons of these and they work up quickly.
Good luck with your project! I hope this helps!
PS. fleece comes in a vriety of costs based on the quality and the store. Yo can get 40% off coupons for Joann Fabrics. You can also get some deals at Wal Mart but my Wal Mart does not have much of a selection. Most fleece in my area runs on the sverage of about $6.99 per yard.

If you use 2 yards, that's a 6-foot blanket which will cover him from neck to feet with some left over. You could spring for an extra half yard or yard if you want.

if for the fleece blankets that you tie all around, any size will do and your best judgement will work. bring along a throw blanket to use to compare at the store. using 2 pieces of fleece always looks good w/ different designs on each side of the blanket! walmarts always good... +they should be experts at the blanket making? good luck, i'm sure he'd love it.

get two piece of fabric, 2 yards each. its best to get 1 patterned, and 1 solid, or 2 solids. At walmart it usually cost around $10.

How tall is he? I made one for an adult and used two yards. I would think that would be big enough, unless you want it to be the size of his bed. If you want it the size of the bed, just see how long his bed is. I would buy big as opposed to buying small.
Good luck and enjoy! This is a really fun project!
