I'm buying a snow blower for my dad for one of his Christmas gifts. What would be the best one?

Agreed on something around 6hp for a minimum on engine power but also consider going for a 2-stage model instead of a single-stage model. You'll be glad you did. You'll want it to last for quite a few years so when you see how steep some of the price tags get, just divide that number by 10 & figure that's what it'll cost per-year over 10 years. Not so bad when you think of it that way. If you really want all-out dependability & longevity with very little chance on breakdown, hence very minimum maintenance repair & cost, go for the Honda. Right now they'll seem major expensive but when you're out there in frigid 10deg weather with 2' of snow, you're gonna be real happy that it starts within the first 2 pulls.

while the length of the driveway is important more important is the width, because that's how far the blower will have to throw the snow (at least half anyway) I wouldn't get anything smaller than a six horse other wise he will have to go over some areas to complete the job.

I have a Toro snowblower and like it. Used it yesterday for the first time this year, started on second pull of starting rope just like usual. Buy a good brand name like Toro and it will last a good long time and won't give many problems along the way.

Well I have a Yard Man that is almost 10 years old now and I swear buy it. I wouldn't get anything too small though.

If he has an ATV get him a plow for it. It is much easier to move snow that way. I would never go back to a snotblower.

really depends on who much you want to spend. if it for your father, i asume he is elderly, something self propelled, name brand, john-deere, yardman, toro, craftsman all are good, with 100+ feet don't skimp on size either. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. MAY YOU AND YOURS HAVE A BLESSED HOLIDAY SEASON..
