I have always viewed the definition of "Christmas spirit" in a secular vein...It is a short lived, howbeit powerful time of celebration, that is enjoyed by participants from all walks of life and beliefs....There is an overwhelming urge to give more of oneself,to overlook the tresspasses of others and a seemingly unexplainable desire for a sense of genuine human bonding, interaction and community. I have observed over many years even a marked difference in traffic cordiality on the highways and streets...
As a Christian,I personally believe that the Holy Spirit overshadows a great majority of the planet,as believers give honor to the Son of God,in celebration of His brith...Jesus said that where two or three are gathered in His name...He would be among them...It is similar to a time of revival, where God the Holy Spirit is poured out in response to a group of peoples who are seeking the face of God,through Jesus Christ and many(including those who do not believe) are the recipients of God's manifold blessings....
For a brief moment...there is a powerful sense of joy that is only shattered when we turn our face from God,to pursue a happiness and peace that is rooted in the mind of the world and apart from the Son of God. (((Rammie)))

My family and I turn on Christmas music, bake cookies while we decorate the tree, read the Christmas story in the Bible, then go driving around looking at the Christmas lights. Busy night, but awesome for the family.

Ah, Rammie although I dont believe in Christmas in the religious sense, I do find myself to be more thoughtful and patient with others at this time of year......Perhaps a leftover of my childhood as my parents were Christians. In all honesty though I would aspire to the virtues espoused by you and the others and hope it was not just at this time of year but throughout my life....; )

It's celebrating the birth of Christ and the wonderful gift of salvation He gave to this world. It's something we should celebrate all year long, not just in December. :)

This Christmas? Not a spirited one at all.
Dispirited, rather.
