That theory is ridiculous.
Even within Christianity, no human knows how old Adam and Eve were before they sinned, so why do some say humanity is 6000 years old?
Adam and Eve could have been 3 million years old before they ate of the tree of knowledge. Who could claim that they were not by the scriptures in the Bible? I'd like anyone to show a passage that eludes to Adam and Eve's age prior to Gen chap 3.
What people have done is add up the ages that people lived throughout the Bible and surmised the 6000 year figure. The true reading of the Bible states that the first recorded sin occurred about 6000 years ago. After this occurrence, it states that Adam lived to be 900 and something years of age before he died. If one is going to study the Bible, one should "study the Bible".
So believers and non-believers alike do not truly know the age of mankind. It certainly appears to predate 6000 years.

I have no problem with it being presented as long as it is presented in an honest way - ie a religous model that has absolutely no scientific validity and so should be given the same weight as Nordic, Inca or Ancient Greek mythology.
Vote USA - teaching evolution does not lead to racism, ignorance does.
There are people that are capable of accepting and embracing ideas such as right and wrong and equality for reasons other than fear of a vengeful god.

Yes, any good school should teach what is wrong with the theory.
Any scientist that believes in it, should have their degree stripped and sent back to kindergarten.
Evolution is witnessed every time an old disease re-emerges with new virulence factors that allow them to bypass our nonspecific immune defenses.
But if you want to keep your head in the dirt, I guess God could be up there giving them antibiotic resistance just to jack with us.
Any good instructor that teaches evolution or genetics will not promote racism, because genetic similarity among humans are so great, that it makes no sense to speak in terms of different races.

I know you libs wont choose my answer as the best. But anyhow, the myth that pervades the minds of secularists tis that Christians blindly believe that the earth is somehow 6000 years old and Adam and Eve were riding the backs of T-Rex's. Please. Why dont you secularists crack open a bible from time to time and answer your own stupid queries. The Bible makes no mention of years. If it was actually 6000 years ago, then relative to what? The Bible (Old testament) is in itself thousands of years old. The New Test. is approximately 2000 years old, and has been read ever since and will conitune to be read for many more. I am a Christian and believe that the earth is indeed millions of years old. But somehow the main message of the bible by denouncers is to combat it with science. The bible isnt a science book, it is Gods word to man through Christ.

I tried to debate a young earth creationist once and it made me want to cry. Instead of providing proof of anything all they can do is try to disprove scientific findings. I gave up it was so ridiculous.

Sure, right next to the ancient Native American teachings that say the continents are the backs of giant turtles as they swim through the sea around them.

Now, now Lamplighter. Most Republicans would not support that.
Just the creationist sect...
OK, upon reading a couple of the answers I may be proven wrong...
Mentioning the earth may be 6,000 years old as an alternate theory? Should we give equal time to the theory that horses get pregnant by facing away from the wind?

I wonder how people coped with tyrannosaurus? A "young earth" concept is ridiculous.
Actually, evolution has been observed. How many dog breeds are there today and what happened to the carrier pigeon?

No, because it really has no basis in fact. Besides, its only a relatively small group who really believe in that literal interpretation.
