I don't know the sex of my baby yet, but if it's a girl I was planning on Lola. Is Lola a likeable name and one she wouldn't mind having when she turned 30???

Well, I am not from the '70's, hence the reason I haven't heard the song by The Kinks. Ha. I was born in the 80's. I have a son named Jadon Kamau and was looking for something more functional, yet still unique and "cute" but I am open to all suggestions. Keep em coming!

Lola is a beautiful name.
It may be the name of a dead porn star (Lola Ferrari) with the biggest fake breasts in history, but how many kids will know this? None.
Lola conjures up images of Italy and mystery. What a great name - personally I'd choose it, yea!

Actually, Lola is a lovely choice. ;)
It's classic, but definitely more spunky and unexpected than overly-familiar (though I like both lots, myself LOL). Still, it means that many who DON'T generally go in for more traditional/classic names will still find it an attractive choice.
Also, despite some comments you may have gotten to the contrary, Lola is actually quite the up-and-comer! ;) It just rejoined the top 1000 in the states in 2002, and was already at a whopping 280 as of 2006 (the 2007 numbers won't be out until spring).
This is likely due to its usage by certain celebs -- though none that would make the name seem a trendy Hollywood choice, as Apple or Maddox might at the moment (thanks to wide-spread coverage of the famous families and even names choices themselves) -- and also due to the fact that Lola is already about top 50 in the UK. Very popular choice there, and since the states tend to follow in terms of naming trends, safe to say it will be a well-liked choice on both sides of the pond. ;)
If you're concerned about the name's likability, however, you might also consider using it as a nickname for some other formal name. Dolores isn't the only option, after all. You could conceivably use it for Lolita (technically a less formal, but still longer, form), Lolicia, Eloise/Eloisa, Lucille/Lucilla, Lourdes, Talulla, Laurel, Lorelei, Leola, Liselot(te), Lilith, etc.
Great name, either way! ;)

Lola, short for Lolita. This is not the type of name I would choose seeing as it has connotations of under-age sex. Check out Vladimir Nabokov's book Lolita (1955), it's about a man who sexually obsesses about a 12 year old girl. Don't like it for that reason.

I like Lola for a child but maybe not as an adult. What about Laura, Louise, Louisa, Layla, Lottie?

I love it - personally, if it went with my last name, I would call my child Lola - my daughter loves the kids show Charlie & Lola and I think it's great.
You should check it out - its a better advocate of the name that the Kinks song!!
