coffee filters - though you'll need a lot. Used and dried is better than new. Color adds interest. Though you also can experiement with paiting them.
nuts and bolts
old shoes (look up the work of Willie Cole, that should inspire you).
magazines for collages
empty drink cans
cutlery (easy to make bracelets with)
Dried orange peel

The point of found object sculpture is to find the objects first and then use your imagination in an exciting way so that people who see the result are impressed, etc.
If you don't see things and collect them in expectation of maybe ... I have a thick steel disk like a washer but about 4" across and a heavy spring, like from a truck, that I have no idea how I will use them, but they look neat and I keep them around.
Look for shapes. Get a box about the size of a milk carton (12x18x14" or so) and walk or bike along places where you have seen trash and keep your eyes open: cans that are crushed or bend in odd ways, pieces of wood, steel or plastic, pieces of mirror, bottle, window or other glass. Odd bits that you will have to see, but people lose short pieces of rebar, tools, clothing and shoes, parts of vehicles, weights from wheels, books, etc.
If you can't find a box full in about 2 blocks, then you need to look at less impressive and less clean streets.
