like the Matrix or Plato's cave or something. Does that make any of our experiences, memories, little happy moments, etc. any LESS important or real?

Think about it...

Since this is all I know then for me this is real.....and everything is important.

This is my reality.

Yes they are less important. We assign an importance to those moments in the context of this dream life we call real. If the life itself isn't real then the momemts aren't real. The only important moment is the moment you wake up and scramble out of the cave.

That being said you can still enjoy a cold beer or a hot babe. It's like the movies. You don't have to think a movie is real to enjoy it. The point is tell the difference between the real and the fake

The reason why it is a big illusion also matter. The Matrix world is (still) a relative illusion -- matrix is an illusion with respect to the plugged-out human world. Question: isn't the latter also an illusion?

Is there an absolution truth that is non-relative?

Perhaps REALITY appears Real, but if life is an Illusion. Doesn't that mean, that the experiences of life could be nothing more then a DREAM. Mere apparitions of your Sub-conscounse, and these apparitions may in themselves be an illusion and so on &on...adinfanitum.

So in reality the entire world, as it exists at the moment. Could be nothing more, then the Dreams of an misguided, terminally ill cockroach, partially caught in a MouseTrap or the adverse. If you want to think, that way.

Great question...

Life experiences are the only thing worth anything to us, purely because Life itself is made up of experiences. Material wealth and possessions are fleeting, they are only conduits for experience to flow through. Perhaps it doesn't matter if life is an illusion or if this world that we call home is all that exists. The emotion of Love is all encompassing and can be the greatest power at work in our Universe, therefor, cherish each day as your last, love all those who love you (and even some who don't) and never forget compassion for living creatures (illusion or not), because once life is snuffed out, there is no going back.

it does, because whatever importance we attach or give to any of our experiences or memories, or other events in our life, we live it in the context of this world, and if our reality is based on what this world offers to our experiences, then it's a whole lot different if we live in another dimension. . but i'm not speaking in absoluteness cause i don't know if this reality is different from that of the matrix, or whatever place different from our own now. all i'm saying is that i think that association of our experiences and moments in life is based on the world that we live in. =)

I would also assume that indeed it will be important in as much as the world is full of events and great things of creations. Having said that will definitely conclude that indeed it is unreal. It will be an unreal image seemingly presented to the senses. Though for me, such an experience is wonderful and i cannot deny personally the happy moments i will cherish in my life.

Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

The illusion is here, we are in it, so in that sense it is important and it certainly "seems" real. Everything from our past (memories, etc.) and every thought of the future has "legs" in this dream. BUT, if we begin to be aware, and begin to awaken to knowing that it is all false, then in that sense (and that is the only truth) it is without importance. Its only importance is that we are in it until we are out of it. Wake up (I shout to myself), wake up and smell the Light, smell Love, smell Truth. I am Sirius

This was the point that Plato was attempting to make. They are no less important or less real. They are the reality.

Perception is reality.

I complely agree with answerer 6, daljack. Everything is important because we're living it right now. We should make the most of it and put all doubts behind us, so we can live it to the fullest. Have a happy and safe holiday season!

It doesn't mean anything in the end. The point is to end those desires and let go of those happy memories.
