The front of a 1200 kg car is designed to absorb the shock of a collision by having a "crumple zone" in which the front 1.20 m of the car collapses in absorbing the shock of a collision.

(a) If a car traveling 26.0 m/s stops uniformly in 1.20 m, how long does the collision last?
answer in s

(b) What is the magnitude of the average force on the car?
answer in N

1.2=26*t-.5*a*t^2
and
0=26-a*t
solve for t

1.2=.5*26*t
t=0.09

a=282 m/s
so the force is
1200*282
F=338400 N

the acceleration is
-28.7 g

j
