My friend is starting to smoke and when i asked her why she was smoking she said bcuz she wanted to, So it scares me that she'll really hurt herself bcuz she already has trouble breathing and so i dont want her to damage that anymore than it already is. I've told her it will hurt me and our friendship and its bcuz it makes me think that she doesn't mind hurting herself. Do you think that I should tell her parents about it so that way she quits or should i just leave her be bcuz im REALLY scared for her and she doesn't even know how much she matters to me and it would hurt me so bad if i lost her! Please give me advice. I don't know how to say that she needs to quit. =/

Don't tell her parents that will just result in her being mad at you and that won't help anybody. Talk to her and see what her reasons are. She may be stressed or just trying ot fit in. Tell her that you are concerned and how much she means to you. Honesty is the key and you shouldn't keep your feelings about her behavior from her. If you talk to her and let her know how much this is worrying you she is more likely to rethink things. Good luck.

Get ready to take a stand... tell her you love her but you can't stand that smoking stank hanging on her hair and clothing, and you don't want to breathe her second-hand smoke.
Tell her that she is putting a severe limit on the boys that will date her because kissing her is like licking an ash-tray.
Tell her that it is an addiction and that she can quit NOW, but may not be able to a month from now.
Wouldn't she rather spend all that money for cigarrettes on something nice, like some music or hot clothes?

Get ready to play keep-away with yourself for a week or two while she ponders all that over.

Friendship is very important to alot of people. More than some people know. Totally open yourself up to her, let her know exactly how you feel. Begging & pleading helps too. If she decides not to listen, then simply tell her that you'll tell her parents if she doesn't try to stop. By not caring about how you feel about her & your friendship, she is being very selfish. I really hope things work out & that she listens to you because you could be the one who saves her life whether you know it or not. Good Luck & God Bless!

I would tell a school counselor and let them deal with it. They are confidential and can handle things sometimes before they become serious. I don't think she is going to die from it, but I think it's so cool that you care this much, she is very lucky to have you as a friend. If the counselor does nothing, mention it to her Mother and ask for this to be between her and you only, or better yet have your mother talk to her mother.

Tell her to quit smoking or you'll be forced to tell on her.

I had a friend who smoked since eighth grade though. Loved her a lot despite it. She told her mother that since SHE smoked, who was she to tell her she couldn't?

So you may run into some interesting ways of thinking about that...if you try to discuss it with the friend before telling on her. But yeah, tell on her.

You probably should tell her parents. If you see a threat, get between it any way you have to.
