They also won't let us pay for another ISP, so that's out too.

I need my own internet, plain and simple. The home network is now "compromised" and my parents think that now (100% out of the blue) downloading is more dangerous than ever and we'll die if I download a movie, album, webpage etc.

The question is - How do I get it? I really don't care if I rent a hellhole apartment so long as I can get an ISP in there to hook up 5Mbps service. What are my options? Get a network card from my phone service provider? Does Alltel have a Mbps network? Doubt it.

What does that leave me with? Anyone ever been in this situation before? I'm sure I'm not the only college student who goes over his 5GB/week quota. Any ideas at all here guys and girls?

Try AT&T instead of altell. AT&T has a card that you stick in the side of the laptop and it will let you get on the internet using a cellphone tower. I think it is like $50.00 a month. but don't tell anyone you have it.

You could ask someone that lives next to the campus to sign up for the internet and tell them you will help pay it and just put a wireless N router in their house. how ever, there would need to be a lot of trust on both ends of that deal.

You can always try and set something up with your mobile service i mean there are programs that will let you use your mobile phones service as a modem for internet but most of the time your provider won't cover it just go ask your mobile provider if they have a service.

Find out if your city has Transio or 5700 coverage. Many do. You can get a translator to pick up the signal, and hang it from your window, or maybe just inside.
