Best book -- that's a tough one. Here's the pool:
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald
House of Mirth, Edith Wharton
The Blithedale Romance, Nathaniel Hawthorne
Dubliners, James Joyce
Jude the Obscure, Thomas Hardy
I actually prefer short stories to full-length books (hence my sneaking Dubliners in there...)
As for a crime book, I'd have to say a collected works of Agatha Christie or Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammet.
(Again with the short stories, I know.) For a work targeted at young adults, Tuck Everlasting -- though it's often ruined by overexposure.

Best youth book (and BEST book in general)
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (is a 3 book series with a sequel pending)
Crime-wise I haven't really read many "crime" books but...
I'd say The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown would fit into that (sorta).

My favorite book is a work of fiction called The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I'm finding more time to read now, though, so I'm in search of a new favorite book. Nothing has enthralled me yet like The Secret History, but some have come pretty close.Looking for a new favorite book is pretty good motivation, though!

Favorite book ever was Mila 18 (about the holocaust). My personal favorite crime book is either the whole Prey Series by John Sandford or the whole Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

I have 2 series of books that i totally luv ones kinda for girls its called the Clique series: by lisi harrison! and this is my fav series in the world is warriors: by erin hunter! hope this helped if u dont like these try the giver, gathering blue, inkspell, inkheart, a hive for the hunnybees, i have lots of others but u probly dont want to here anymore!
