Anyone that gets the death sentence has done something really bad. I think lethal injection is to good for some of them.L/I is a much easier death then their victims were given I'm sure.Cruel and unusual punishment? You have got to be kidding. Should they be kept in a prison for the rest of their life so they can enjoy cable TV. a workout gym, laying around most of the day and being taken care of by the state?I don't think so. They should be put to death right away and stop wasting the states money. If they get back out( which most of them do) many just go back and commit their crimes again.Think of hanging or the electric chair. These are much worse. Even then, they deserve to be put down. Just like any other animal that has gone mad and killed someone.

Yes, it is cruel and unusual. Killing any human that has been detained is barbaric, and thankfully the West (bar one noticeable exception that has higher murder rates than all the rest) has accepted this.
It is in no way beneficial to society; the death penalty only sends a message to people that the state endorses revenge.
Answerer above: another piece of irrefutable evidence that flies in the face of those who justify it as a deterrent. The type of people 'worthy' of the death penalty are usually deeply disturbed individuals, I doubt they can't sleep at night pre-crime because of fear of dying. And as for wasting the tax-payers money...yeah right, because prisons are over-populated by murderers, paedophiles and rapists. The fact that prisons are over-populated is an indictment on the current state of society, nothing else.
Of course, these are all hypothetical. I haven't even started on the practical reasons, such as miscarriages of justice, as to why all death penalty cases are cruel and unusual.

People should be punished for their crimes.
There are no innocent people in prison (yeah right), hence no innocent people have ever been given the death sentence (yeah right again).
I would not go so far as to say the lethal injection is cruel. or unusual, but it is final.
Guess that screws up your chances of a successful appeal though.
(on the other hand, when the person is truly guilty it may give the family of the victim some closure, but I doubt that is true).

The standard needs to change from reasonable doubt at the trial to guilty to an absolute certainty......then the death penalty should be sought at that point....
If the crime is so heinous, cruel and the perp(aka Skell) is guilty
why can't the US Constitution be used as a shield for the victims..........when this person enters jail, is he likely to change for the better?probably not .....so other people in jail are at risk of death at his hands.....throw the switch and move on....

No. Lethal injection is not cruel or unusual, particularly since it is used so sparingly. The state does not commit murder since the individual who is being killed is losing his/her life as a consequence for committing a horrible crime. The act is neither arbitrary nor capricious. They have had a chance to appeal, the appeals have failed, now they have their sentence imposed.
Maybe they should have considered the consequence before committing the crime.

I think being chopped up into pieces in an industrial shredder with your family watching (like Saddam use to do to people) is cruel and unusual. Or any of the crazy things the Brits use to do, like drawing and quartering.
Being put to sleep doesn't seem too cruel, I've had several needles in the past few years, and they hardly hurt at all. As for being unusual, it seems to be the favored and most common (usual) form of capital punishment so not unusual at all.

Yes.
The rates of murder in the USA where the death penalty is enforced, is HIGHER than in states where the death penalty doesn't exist.
Incredible, but true.
This proves the death penalty is not only pointless, but therefore doubly cruel and disgusting - and I am ashamed that America still has this policy of hypocrisy.
You don't preach to no man of the 'wrongs' of murder, if by doing this, you follow their same sin - murder!

My brother is a career detective who has commanded homicide squads. He considers any death penalty barbaric and stupid, given the number of wrongful convictions.
His words: "Am I perfect? No! Without the death penalty, we can release the innocent man. What can give justice to a corpse?"
"What can be crueller than knowing as they strap you down that you did not commit the crime, and that the entire world believe you did? Does any revenge justify such an act on my behalf?"
And he is the commander of a major crimes squad.

I do not think it is I mean your killing them what does it matter how it is done. and the sate does it (if it must) to set an example what do you think would happen if murderers who have killed lots of innocent people got off with just a slap on the wrist? every one would start to do it I mean you would only get a slap on the wrist why not kill your mean boss. That is how the world will think now if someone gets killed for murder then you will think twice about doing murder. So the state makes examples out of others so we do not cross the line.

they inject that when they know a person hasn't got long to live anyway.its to stop them suffering i guess. but wen a person murders someone there taking there whole life away..
its not punishment. they see it as the best for them.
like my mum she was ill for a very long time and in feb just gone she was admitted to hospital but those few days she was there she was adiment she was not giving up,but it got to much for her and couldn't take the pain anymore so she asked the doctors for the morphine after giving that injection she lasted for a further 2 days. then she passed on 17th feb..
at the time i thought the injection was a bad idea but lookin bak on it now.its better to know she didnt have to suffer anymore...
