My favorite wind chime is one I made out of 1' galvanized pipe. It has five notes, tuned to the piano; I forget the chord but maybe bflat. It hangs from a round of wood, with an acryllic clapper. I have it hung in my woods and it sounds like distant church bells. I also have a two-tier bamboo chime that my daughter brought me back from Maui, and it is a soothing, soft sort of tinkle on my deck when the breeze blows.

I love the sound of the bamboo wind chimes. I also like the look of them. Sometimes the metal ones are quite annoying. It could be because I live in a very windy area.

I'm partial to the J.W. Stannard line of chimes, which are tuned to specific notes depending on the chime design. I listened to a number of different-sized and pitched chimes at the store.
The one I liked the best in the line was the J.W. Stannard "Concerto," which is their deepest tuned chime, and features a selection of notes that I find extremely soothing.

I make themed wind chimes from recycled metals. I have made one from cookie cutters for a bakery, silverware for a diner, disk drives for a computer store, I absolutely love it and it keeps a lot of stuff out of the landfill. Each one is different, impossible to choose a favorite.

I love them! I bet they drive my neighbors nuts at night when the wind is blowing and my porch full of wind chimes is in full swing. Makes me sleep good. I don't care what it looks like just so it sounds good.

sorry ...dont like wind chimes...should make them out of foam rubber...

YES...not really a certain type just the various sounds are soothing.
Glass, Metal, bamboo, plastic...all sound nice.
