There is a keyhole that Apophis will have to pass through in 2029 in order to have it's orbit significantly perturbed by the earth and thus bring it onto a possible collision course in a later apparition (2036).

The Asteroid is too small to cause global devastation but it would cause regional devastation at the continental level if it struck that continent.

Apophis has a diameter of only 250 meters, but this could wreak havoc in our densely populated world. Even an impact in the ocean would trigger at least a small tsunami. Damage would definitely not be global, but if the asteroid did impact a poor nation or a large city, the results could be disastrous.

The chance only 1 in 45,000. But it is only a quarter of a kilometer wide, too small to cause global devastation even if it did hit. It would be local damage only.
